Scouts are the third section of the Scouting movement. From the first experimental camp for 20 boys in 1907, the movement now has an estimated 28 million members worldwide, with almost half a million in the UK alone. An increase in adult volunteers means that more and more young people are now able to take part in their own big adventure.
The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10½ and 14 years, however you can come into the Troop at 10 and may stay until 14½ years old.

Activities:

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. Participation rather than meeting set standards is the key approach, and for the Scout who wants to be recognised their achievements there are a number of Challenges awards and activity badges.

Balanced Programme:

Scouts take part in a Balanced Programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit, and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes.
Being outdoors is important, and half the programme is given over to taking part in traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking, as well as a wider spectrum of adventurous activities, from abseiling to zorbing.

International Scouting:

Its international aspect gives Scouting a special appeal, and many Scouts now travel abroad during their time in the section. In 2007, 40,000 Scouts from around the world attended the World Jamboree in the UK, and Scouts regularly participate in international camps and experiences both on home soil and abroad, each of them a unique experience in its own right.

Structure:

A Scout Troop is divided into small groups called Patrols, each headed up by an older Scout called a Patrol Leader, and often with an Assistant Patrol Leader.
Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, and participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.

Scout Promise:

On my honour, I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Scout Law.

Scout Law:

1 A Scout is to be trusted
2 A Scout is loyal
3 A Scout is friendly and considerate
4 A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts
5 A Scout has courage in all difficulties
6 A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property
7 A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.

Scout Motto:

Be prepared

One Night Back to Basics Camp

We will be sitting down as patrols at Scouts and deciding you menu equipment travelling and timings.

The basic idea is to sort all the equipment including your personal gear the Wednesday before so that it can be sent off to the camp site.  Then on the Saturday we will meet and using public transport make our way to the camp site with just a day sack with drink, snack and waterproof.

If you have ideas, suggestions or a thought during the week that will help with the planning you could jot it down in the chat areas (the password is 10 letters long made of leaders names and the patrol leaders 2 initials from oldest to youngest).

The Scouts have recently returned from the February Freeze Camp,  This was the first time we had tried this event at Chalfont St. Peter's PACCAR camp site.  Previous winter camp was at Gilwell in January, where we had snow and freezing temperatures.  Being a bit further away from Christmas the timing of this camp was better and the weather, the weather was almost as good as summer camp.  The food was O.K. apart from the scrambled egg!  There was a nice selection of activities and a good atmosphere generally.  We took some video as a small reminder of what we got upto.  We also try to upload photos from events and camps, power permitting as we go along to our Events Blog so call in there to see a few more photos from this and previous events.
