Once again the cubs are hell-bent on pleasure, and we are off again on camp. From Friday 21st until Sunday 23rd October, we will be atBelchamps Scout Outdoor Centre, near Southend, in Essex. We will be staying in indoor accomodation that can sleep up to 24. There are bunks in the main hall around the egde, with separate toilet facilities, kitchen and leaders rooms. We will be taking part in activities such as Archery, Rifle Shooting, Climbing and the Assault Course, as well as some more traditional back to basics activities. We will also be completing our Outdoor Challenge badge, and our Navigator Activity badge. Some of our older cubs will also be able to complete their Camper Activity badge, too. The camp is priced at £45 per person, which considering the accommodation and activities, is actually a bit of a steal!

To see some photos of the building we will be staying in, please click here. The video from our last cub camp is available here, so you can see just how much fun they had!

Welcome to 1st Beddington Scout Group PDF Print E-mail

1st Beddington Scout Group was started in 1920 and has been at it's present site since 1957.  We are a relatively small group on the edge of Sutton District, although our beaver colony is slowly growing, our cub pack, which is the largest section in our group, is teaming with enthusiastic cubs, and our scout troop continues to flourish and is at it's largest since it re-opened five years ago.

As with all Scout Groups we are run by volunteers, and this is not just the Section Leaders and Assistants that parents see every week - there are also a dedicated team of non-uniformed helpers who keep the group running by doing essential administration and support roles such as hiring out our premises, maintaining our grounds and managing our website. If you feel that you could get involved then we have a Volunteer section with some specific roles or if you wish to lend a less formal hand please contact us using the form on this site or via a Leader.  Of course you can still help by supporting your child and by attending some of our fund raising events, you may even enjoy it!

Please take some time to view our site, you will see below the latest events that have taken place over the past few months. We also have section specific pages, and the Scouts' blog is well worth a look - they get up to some interesting things!

AGM 2011 PDF Print E-mail

A good time was had by all that attended our AGM this year.  Our AGM was wrapped in to a fun day and BBQ.  The event started with a scavenger hunt around Beddington Park.  We returned to the hall and the grown ups joined in the fun of the AGM whilst the younger people had some fun outside in the glorious sunshine.  The grown ups emerged from the serious business of the AGM where they learned all about the Group, how the money goes, what the various sections do, the numerous thank you's that need to be said (because the group could not run without the many volunteers that help) and a shortish address from our District commissioner (Chris Williams).  The BBQ food was just right and the rest of the afternoon was spent enjoying the food and relaxed atmosphere.  There are a few photos in our galleries here, curtsey of Tom.

Beaver Sleepover 2011 PDF Print E-mail

The Beavers had a sleepover this weekend, on a theme of super-heros. They proved their skills, bravery, strength, brainpower and teamwork, earning themselves 'super Beaver' status.

They took part in a tug-of-war, assault course, and many team games. In the evening they put up their tents inside the hall before watching a super hero film. We were also treated to the firework display from neighbouring Music in the Park concert!

Remarkably the torrential downpours ceased for the sleepover, meaning we were able to make the most of being outside.

Well done to all the beavers who came, and parents can see some photos from this weekend in our album. They will all be getting their '1 night away' badge in due course.

Easter 2011 Cub Camp PDF Print E-mail

The cubs have recently returned from a very windy camp at Blackland Farm in East Grinstead. This was slightly different to most camps as there were many other groups from the Sutton District - Beavers, Cubs and Scouts camping at the same time.

We took advantage of the competition, challenging neighbouring 11th Wallington cubs to a game of rounders and organising a wide game with 11th and 1st North Wallington. We also had a camp fire with hundreds of members from all over Sutton, where Akela, Bagheera and Baloo were made to sing! In addition, there was plenty of time for the usual activities - rock climbing (above!), abseiling, archery and grass sledging to name a few - plus the cubs all earned their astronomers badge.

As always there are photos available in our gallery, plus a video is now available.
